  • 435,000 people were diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease in 2015 in England alone.
  • STDs doubled among 50-90-year-olds in the UK, USA and Canada.
  • The ten most common STDs in the UK are chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhoea, warts, genital herpes, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B, hepatitis C, pubic lice, and trichomonas.
  • There’s been a large increase in the number of diagnoses of syphilis and gonorrhoea in 2015 compared to 2014 (20% and 11% increase, respectively).
  • Many STDs are asymptomatic or “silent”.
  • Condoms do protect against some STDs, but they do not offer 100% protection.


  • Changes in the amount, colour or consistency of discharge
